While I haven’t progressed to dressing my kids and I in matching outfits (though there was that one time at the local markets when I came *this* close to buying matching print harem pants for the three of us.. I was foiled at the finish line by the husband who didn’t see the appeal. just FYI baby daddy; it would have been AWESOME). Motherhood has meant that I often buy my clothes from the same place I buy my kids gear. These days, that tends to happen online as ‘clothes shopping’ is pretty much tied with ‘drink Yaks milk’ at the bottom of a very long list of stuff that needs to get done.
Gone are leisurely Saturdays when I used to swan around the shops, languidly pulling on and discarding multiple items of clothing, generally interspersed with coffee sipping and perhaps a mani/pedi, before making my eventual purchase. These days, if I do shop in store, it’s more like a mad smash and grab where I yank items off the racks at Target while the kids are entertained by their father in the toy section. Online offers a far more pleasant experience and also spares the shopping public from witnessing a 30 year old woman attempt to try three different t-shirts on over the top of whatever she’s wearing while juggling both a bulging nappy bag and Ergo Baby carrier (with or without a child in it).
Now that i’ve been in the game for three years (three years people!) I’ve become quite au faie with brands and shops/sites that I love for the kids AND I. I can generally be guaranteed to log on or pop in and find something for all of us. This makes my life at least 360% easier, especially as my children appear to grow like the weeds taking over my veggie patch; insanely quickly and tenaciously. I swear Evie was born a few weeks back yet is already in size 00/0. As sharing is caring, I thought I’d post my go-to list so that we can all share in the gloriousness of easy-as online shopping.
Oh Bonds. My love affair with the Aussie icon has never really waned. Yes, I do admittedly wait for their sales to roll around before stocking up but when they do, you can’t beat the prices. And I have found that their Wondersuits in particular stand up to the wear and tear my kids throw at them (and I’m talking some hardcore mess and play) better than some of the cheaper brands. Plus the double zip? Genius. I’m also a devout fan of their Maternity Singlets. I’m not lying when I saw that I live in them. I estimate that I wear one 5/7 days per week, either under something else or on its own. At the moment, I’m hovering my mouse over the new Maternity Layer Tank and the Chambray Pant for me and the new Wondersuit prints (have you seen them? The Butterfly Magic and Little Desert Pop are insanely cute) and the Lil Dreamer PJ’s for the kids.
2. Seed Heritage
Another one I buy on special but would happily clothe myself and my kids in every single day if I could. Oh Seed, you are so fine. For some reason, I feel much more grown up when clad in anything from Seed. It’s the Trenery to my usual Country Road. I think it’s something to do with the fit and the quality. Whatever it is, it’s dangerous territory for my credit card. As for the kids range, I walk the fine line between wanting my kids to wear the few Seed items we have AND being slightly fearful of them annihilating the gorgeousness. Thus far though I have found that Seed washes really well. Not a lot of shrinkage and generally most stains and the like can be easily removed.. Thank God. I’m currently eyeing off the Wrap Front Jersey Tee and the Linen Tee for me and the Panda Tee and Novelty Slip On shoes for the kidlets.
3. Emu Australia
Look, I’m just going to put it out there; I love my sheepskin boots. And can I just say that I was wearing em’ loooong before they became a ‘thing’. Any self respecting kid who grew up swimming laps at some God forsaken hour every morning and competing at carnivals every weekend like me would most likely have owned at least one pair (I had two; one for the pool and one for after training) and the love affair has never diminished. I also suffer terribly cold tootsies, as in the rest of me can be comfortably warm and my feet will be like two blocks of ice. This was especially delightful when living over in England during the Winter. I swear we could have used my feet should the fridge have ever broken down (disgusting but true). But I digress. Slippers still play a significant role in my life, especially in Winter and I’ve passed the love onto my kids. While I’m happy to rock your standard boot (like these Platinum Stinger Hi’s) my son is a little more funky in his taste and is passionately devoted to his ‘Baaa Boots’ AKA his Emu Little Creatures ‘Lamb’ Boots. He wore them all Winter long and I suspect that we’ll be buying a new pair in a larger size in a few months time. I’m already eyeing off the ‘Toddle‘ for Evie and the ‘Valery Mini’ for me for when Winter starts rearing it’s frosty head. Now make sure you keep reading friends as I think you may just have a chance to WIN a pair of sheepskin boots for you AND your little one.. All the deets at the end of the post (ooooh the suspense!)
4. Best & Less
Yes, THE Best & Less. Before you shut your laptops and write me off completely, I gotta tell you, Best & Less has upped it’s game lately. I too was shocked by this. I wandered on over to the website, hunting for size 00 t-shirts and size 3 shorts and left with a few bargains for mama. Bargains (like the electric blue sleeveless shirt in the photo) that I have well and truly worn into the ground. The kids clothes wash and wear really well and there are some downright funky colours, patterns and styles on offer. Ollie has been rocking a couple of pairs of the Printed Volley shorts (which set us back $15 for THREE pairs!) with gay abandon lately, while Evie has been all over the Zig Zag Bow Shorts ($3 each) and the Seersucker Sunsuit ($7). I’m currently contemplating the Military Shirt (perfect for constant boobing sessions) for moi and the cotton long sleeve tops for the kids now that we’re getting some funny, Autumnal weather through.
5. Baby Jogger Stroller.
This Pram is one of the best in its industry and highly suggest you try it before you buy any other pram or stroller.
